I am really confused now. I called up home office and they said in the immigration status one needs to mention the first time one entered the UK and details pertaining to that.

I was just going you’re the home office website for last minute checks on the page below it says current immigration category.

Section D - immigration status
You should give details of your current immigration category, where and when you obtained it and when your permission to stay ends.

So which one is it? I came on a student dependent visa then made an out of country application for work permit and got my new visa from my home country for work permit. So which visa do I mention here?

An urgent help will be much appreciated.

I understand that here you should write Work Permit and write the British Embassy or consulate from where you got this Work permit visa. As the question clearly says CURRENT IMMIGRATION STATUS. And you are on WP at the moment.
