Schengen Visa Application Information

Hello,

I want to apply for a schengen visa to Italy for my wife and I, we are both UK residents on a working visa. I want to find out the following:

1. Do I have to pay in full for my flights and hotels before applying for the schengen visa, or will the embassy accept unpaid flight and hotel reservations?

2. Do both my wife and I have to provide a proof of employment document or is just mine sufficient?

3. For proof of funds, do I have to have a particular sum in the account for the past 3 months or do I just have to provide bank account statements. Also, will they accept a credit card as proof of funds?
