Already Have ILR do I really need to apply for BRP

Hi,
I am an Australian National married to a British Citizen with two dual nationality grown up children.
I have had ILR since 1985 in an old passport that I carry around with me when I travel.

1. Do I need to get a BRP and pay £300?
2. Why is it not minimum charge if I have had ILR for the past 30 odd years?
3. Will I be informed that I need to do this?

A BRP via NTL application is necessary for new employers or new landlords.

You must apply for BRP which will have ILR, old fasioned ILR stricker can cause issue. I am saying this because my cousin had his ilr on old passport and he was told by authorities that he could get 1k fine also can be stopped at airport at the time of entry, so better to apply for brp

Out of curiosity, did you marry your British husband before 1983? And was he a British citizen at the time of marriage?

Every traveller is examined at the airport at the time of entry. However, your cousin did nothing illegal, as confirmed:

You can still use your visa even if your passport’s expired, but you can choose to replace it with a biometric residence permit (BRP).

Subject to 18A.

Actually we married in 1985 after interviews with the Home Office. Yes he was born British.
