uk residence card

Post by juju1979 » Fri Apr 25, 2008 5:47 pm

My husband was been granted his EEA Family Permit (1 April 2008), we will be leaving Rome at the end of May.
When we arrive in the UK I have read that we should apply straight away for his residence card, as it should take up to 6 months to receive the residence card, my husband's visa will expire in October as we have had to waste 2 months of his visa in Rome,
What should we do ???? when it expires
Which documents will we require for the application of residence card

Anyone who can help it would be much appreciated

You are not required to apply for a Residence Card, though it make it easier to come and go to the UK in the long term. You are certainly not forced to do anything immediately.

What are your citizenships? What are your plans in the UK, especially for work?

I would settle down and find work - this is an expensive place. And then file an application for a Residence Card (should be easy to fill out and processed in not more than 6 months). I believe you can send photocopies of your passports initially with a cover letter explaining that you will send the actual passports when the Residence Card is ready to issue.

Do you plan to arrive in the UK within the 6 months that your EEA family permit is valid?

After you arrive, why not take your time and settle in and find work. When that is done you can apply for a Residence Card.

Remember your Residence Card is not manditory in general, though you may need it for travel into and out of the UK, and to prove the right to work (that you have whether or not you have the Residence Card)
