marrying an american... what is the best way to emigrate?

I am a 25 yr old female from uk who has an american bf... we have been together a good few months and i have been over for 2, 2 week visits. we have spoke about marriage, looked into me emigrating there or him coming to the uk, we just want to be together, the distance tears us apart.
we have looked into a k1 fiancee visa, the only thing is my bf is studying and only has a part time job so is unable to support me at present, i however have been in the same job for 9 yrs, i dont want to claim anythingoff the us government.. and am willing to work there and support myself, will this go against us? and would itbe easier for him to come here?
we are just stuck at present and like i said we will do anything to be together. id be grateful for any advice anyone may have. thank you.

It would definitely be easier for your future husband to move to the UK (US immigration is more involved). You should ask yourself: where do you want to live? Where do you want to get married?

About the job question: does your boyfriend have anyone (relative or friend) who could sign the affidavit of support for him?

well to be honest we would prefer to recide in the USA.. as he is more of a home bod, whereas i would comfortably feel at home there, i love it.
as for the weddinf it will be in the usa as his mother wont fly, im not sure if anyone would support him on the finance front, i didnt realise that was an option actually, in that circumstance what would be involved?

It is possible for several people to sponsor and combine the total assets to meet the requirement.

One of several options in your case is that you can get married in the UK .. a simple, civil service that documents your marriage as legal.

At that point you can apply for your spouse visa to the U.S., something that you would have to do from outside the country anyway. Once you get to the U.S., you can have the wedding.


As you have posted, you can get the fiancee visa and then come into the U.S., get married and then change your status from within the country to that of spouse.

Advantage to getting the spouse visa directly and bypass the fiancee is that it will be (slightly) more simple, a little bit cheaper, and you can work immediately as a spouse. It is difficult (can be near-impossible) to work as a fiancee ... that route has been so abused over the years that immigration authorities tend not to be cooperative.
