5 year visa for being married to Irish Citizen...

Hi, please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong section...

I hope you guys will be able to help me with my questions...

If a person has a 5-year visa on the basis of marriage to an Irish Citizen living in the UK, and then they separate a couple of months after the visa is issued, where does that person then stand with regards to their immigration status? Are they able to remain until the 5 years is up? What if that person is in trouble with the law? Is there any chance they may be removed if they were to commit a crime? What about benefits? Are they able to claim for living and housing benefits?

Does that mean 3 years from being together or 3 years from the date of issuement of the visa. Also, does having a child make any difference?

This is not for myself btw, I am asking for the Irish citizen...
