Turkish Au Pair - Can she stay?

Post by Turkishenquirer1 » Mon May 19, 2008 5:39 pm

My situation is exactly the same as this post:

http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewto ... kish++pair

However, as this was posted and replied to 3 years ago, I thought I would ask the question again.

My Turkish girlfriend wishes to stay in the UK (as I also want her to do!) and be able to study and work. Most likely live with me, although she has other family living locally too.

Are there more options available with her staying definitely or indefinitely than there were 3 years ago?

Look forward to any helpful replies and hope this also helps others in similar situations.

Kind regards,

Graeme

Things are very much the same as three years ago. The previous post did not mention COA, if you want to get married in the UK- see attached link for full details.

The post suggests getting married in Turkey - I totally agree it is the easiest way to go about it. Then apply for a spouse visa.

Thanks for the advice.

Would a partner visa be another option, if we were engaged and planned to marry within 6 months?

No, we haven't. As she is an au pair she is not primarily living with me.

I take it that 2 years co-habiting is a requirement of the partner visa application?

Fraid so.

Thought about a student visa? Expensive tho but sometimes it's the only way - it was for us.

Thanks for the advice Wanderer.

I think that the student visa could be a viable option. Do you know if she would have to return to Turkey first, or could she apply while still in UK?

I very much appreciate the advice from someone who has been through this process already!
