HELP! Naturalisation via British Spouse ONLINE Application Query

Post by Dia13 » Thu Oct 04, 2018 12:39 am

Hi all,

My first post here and it is a query on a very odd bit of the ONLINE form for naturalisation.

I was granted Indefinite Leave to Remain on Sept. 27, 2018. As I am a spouse of a British citizen I an eligible to start the naturalisation process. I have started with the ONLINE form and am planning to use NDRS+JCAP.

In the section under ``Is your partner a naturalised British citizen?'' the online form asks for the
*Date your partner was granted citizenship
*Partner's citizenship certificate reference number

My husband took citizenship close to a decade ago and has a British passport. He can no longer locate the `citizenship certificate reference number'. From photos I can verify when he was naturalised but can't fine the form.

For the date can I put the DATE OF ISSUE from the passport and use the PASSPORT NUMBER for the Citizenship certificate number?

Apologies if this is a silly question or if it has been answered already. Keen to submit this document this week, so worrying a little bit and would greatly appreciate any help!

Recommend you quote the date you know and leave certificate number blank (if possible) and explain circumstances (is there a freeform comments box available?). I would also recommend you obtain a replacement certificate as only this is the absolute proof of naturalisation. A passport is not such a proof and on renewing HMPO may ask for additional information.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
Please do not send me private messages asking for advice.

Thanks for your help. One of the other posts (see below) said the 'certificate number' is the same as the 'application reference number' used in communication with the Home Office during this process. My husband has found a 9-digit number in a letter to the Home Office about mailing his passport to a particular address. Is this the correct one?
When the agent said he would do the Naturalisation process for me he never asked for this number despite knowing my husband is a naturalised Brit. I decided to do this myself due to the ease of process and the agent charging £1400!

Wonder what the agent was proposing to do without this number.

Can someone please clarify?

Just for heads up, the naturalisation certificate reference number is same as application reference number. See if you can find that from your records, e.g confirmation email, bio metric letter etc. If not, then explain the reason why you are unable to provide that.

Alright finally found the certificate and NO the certificate number on the naturalisation form isn’t the same as any random reference number in any communication with the Home Office (at least not the case in this form from 2010.) thanks for your help! If I do get a response from the Home Office (I called and mailed them with the same query) then I will update this post with their response. Thanks all!
