Can a Work Permit change to Infinite stay in UK?

Post by 4192 » Wed May 28, 2008 6:15 pm

Hi everyone! I would really appreciate it if someone can answer my concern.

My wife and I are pakistani nationals with valid 2 yr UK work permit. She is working for Schlumberger and going to be placed in UK. My questions is that if we stay and work in UK for 5 years with a work permit provided by Schlumberger, can we get to stay in UK for an infinite periodor does it have to be only HSMP to get the the infinite stay. Thanks!

Its either 5 yrs on Work Permit or 5 yrs on HSMP or a combination of both adding to 5 yrs, that can lead you to Indefinite stay.

Good luck

But not HSMP then WP as I understand it - that resets the clock unless I got it wrong.

Why on earth will someone go on WP upon having HSMP status?

Its like an EU citizen applying for student visa to study in the UK

That remark you make is beyond my understanding.

Well; I think Yolk is correct anyone condition or combination of both will move you towards ILR.

But, maintain you time in UK and book your leave to suites the time period, I mean duration you need to spent in UK in those five years.

Thanks

Have you not seen how many people on HSMP were left unable to extend their HSMP when the UK government changed the criteria?

If you have coverd five year period via one or two WP or some via WP and some via HSMP in both the case you can obtain permanant residency. See following quote from UK BA web site link of whih given here.

'Work permits are valid for work until a certain date. Some work permit arrangements are only short-term immigration categories while other work permit arrangements can provide you with a route to permanent residency (settlement) in the United Kingdom."

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/worki ... rkpermits/

Visit the web site it has all the answers to your questions, eve you can ask them any question.
