Tier 2 visa and international secondment

I've been on a Tier 2 visa with my current employer for the last two years and now an opportunity has come up to be seconded to their US office for three months. I've looked into it and getting the US visa shouldn't be an issue but I'm a bit concerned about what this means for my current UK visa status. Theoretically it's less than 6 months so it shouldn't affect any ILR applications I make in the future, right? Would it cause any problems for my current visa even though it's not a change of employer, just a change of employment circumstances? I imagine I'll need to let UKVI know, but I'm not sure how to do that. Couldn't find anything on their website.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You should be fine. Make sure your salaries and related allowances for those three months are paid in the UK office and into your UK account as usual and that your taxes are paid accordingly. I don't think you need to inform UKVI. However, you have to be careful with the calculation of the continuous stay.

To be on a safe side, your sponsor can add a note to sms saying you're temporarily working on a project abroad
