Housing inspection

Post by impactcrew » Mon Jun 02, 2008 12:00 pm

Hello,

I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction here. The question is for settlement visa I need an inspection carried out by the local housing authority to say that there is adequate accomaodation in the proposed property. I know in the past that the local authority's environmental health and housing use to provide this inspection but this is not the case any longer, any one have any ideas of any organisation or private company that can provide this inspection in Suffolk/Cambridgeshire/Essex counties.

Regards
Mukul

thanks for that. Does it matter if they are not immigration approved? Any ideas on cost?

Any one else apart from local estate agents?

well i live in cardiff and the council used to provide the service but stoped doing it, so they gave me a number to an independent company who did the inspection report for me and it cost £60.

anyone else.. ermmm ring council and ask if they know anyone who provides the service.

You could do it yourself. Take detailed (including measurements) photos of all the bedrooms, also pics of the Spam, living areas and bathroom(s). Then write a covering letter summarising the space/rooms available in the house and also state who is living at the property.

You can also get an electrol roll letter or something of the sort. It's basically a statement that says who is registered as living in the property via the electrol roll.

Don't forget to include household utility bills in the application.

Thanks for your help guys but does anyone know of any immigration approved companies that do the household inspection. What i don't want is the immigration authorities turn around and say "this inspection was not carried out by immigration approved body"....or is it that the inspection does not have to be by a immigration approved authority.

Correct! It doesn't matter who does it, as long as it is done.

I drawn a full plan of my house myself when I applied for my entry clearance in 2006. I measured every single room and did a plan. Got my visa no problem. There is no such thing called immigration approved authority to do the inspection of your house and its not a law/rule either.
