My niece, is due to come to the UK from Ghana on a 2 months work programe with an international financial institution. Yesterday she collected her visa, the problem however is that, the date on the visa stamp is the day she actually starts work and not the day the institution wanted her to arrive here which is about a 4 days' interval. She had submitted with her visa application the airline tickets showing her intended date of travel etc.

I have advised her to contact the company but in the meantime what can she do in this circumstance, as I feel she would not be allowed into the UK before the start of her visa....please advise, thanks.

I think that on the visa application form there is a box to fill, stating intended date of travel. Did she fill that in correctly?
You say she submitted her airline tickets, so it's quite possible that the Visa Office made a mistake. As a first step you should contact them asking for the visa to be amended or re-issued. If it is their mistake they will certainly do that.
She will be unable to arrive before the date on the visa. The airline risk a fine if they carry her too early, so they won't let her on the plane.
If the worst happens you'll have to contact the employers and explain that she's going to be late.

Thanks, Mr. Rusty. It's very likely their mistake - we will request an amendment/re-issue. My understanding is that there is no more a 'human element' (face to face interview) in the application process these days, probably she would have been able to call their attention to this error otherwise.
