Issue: I've been in the UK for over 12 years and had ILR granted when I first moved here with my family from Zimbabwe. I'm finally applying for my BRP & NTL in order to take the necessary steps towards naturalisation. However, my original Zimbabwean passport as well as my original birth certificate has been lost. I've contacted the embassy and they all but laughed at me, so getting replacements may not be an option.
Questions:
- How likely am I to succeed with my application, when the only ID document I have is a photocopy of my birth certificate (+ other supporting documents, such as utility bills, P45's/P60's, GP and school attendance records?
- Do you have any advice on what to do on the day if they refuse my application due to this?
- Should I preempt issues by seeking guidance from an immigration adviser/immigration solicitor before my appointment?
- Do you think there is a way to get replacements from the embassy if I persist? Sorry if this all sounds naive, I'm completely in the dark.
