My ancestry visa expires 20/03/2019.
I have started my online application for ILR under 5 year route.
I am still a bit confused with the 28 day application period. Can I submit my online application before this 28 day window, and then book into a centre within the 28 day window? Or do I have to submit online application AND book into a centre within the 28 day window?

Online application submission date is the application date considered. That should be within the 28 day window. You can get appointments pretty quick with the new system usually within 7-10 days. However, if you pay more you can get same day or next day depending on availability also. The appointment date is not important as long as you have submitted your online application in time within the 28 day window.
Dont hit the submit button before the 28 day window.
