Student (F1) & Dependent (F2) Visa

I have got few things to ask you all.



My cousin brother is planning to go to USA to study Masters in near future. He lives in India. He is married and has got a year old child. He is younger than me. He plans to take his wife and child with him as his dependent.



1. Could three of them apply for US Visa at the same time?
2. Is there semesters in US- Fall, winter & summer?
3. Will he be allowed to work (F1 visa)? How many hrs max. he could (allowed) work while on student visa? Does he need to get a special permission to work?
4. Would his wife be allowed to work(F2 visa)? How many hrs would she allowed to work?
5. Would he have to pay for his child’s education (when he goes to school in few yrs time)? Does government pay for it?
6. At what age a child has to start going to school (compulsory education)?

Please advice

There isn't a winter semester. Fall (usually Sept - Dec), Spring (Jan - May) and Summer (June - Aug) --- fall and spring being the main semesters in session

Max 20 hours work allowed on-campus. No off-campus jobs allowed in general, although he might want to educate himself on options like OPT and CPT
4. Would his wife be allowed to work(F2 visa)? How many hrs would she allowed to work?
No. Dependents can't work. Period.
5. Would he have to pay for his child’s education (when he goes to school in few yrs time)? Does government pay for it?
I wouldn't want to mis-guide you as I don't know the details but public schools did seem to be free - but don't quote me on it.
6. At what age a child has to start going to school (compulsory education)?
