Waiting for dependent's BRP / Death in family / Any recommendations?

Post by tbearwilson » Fri Feb 08, 2019 6:27 pm

Hi,

My citizenship is US and I'm on a 3 year Tier 2 visa that expires in 2021. Our son was born in the UK 4 months ago. His birth was registered in the UK and we completed the BRP appointment in person in Birmingham on December 29, 2018. This week a family member passed away and we're trying to get to the service by 22 Feb. We've not yet received a decision letter or the BRP card. I called and was told they cannot check the status of the application with Home Office and that the published service time is 8 weeks.
  • Does that mean 8 weeks from December 29, 2018?
  • Should we expect to receive just the decision letter within the 8 weeks or also the BRP card?
  • Are you aware of any sets of circumstances or routes that would allow us to leave the UK without having the decision letter and/or BRP card in hand and return with my son?

Thank you for help thinking through this.

Cheers,
tk

Hi,

I am also in a same kind of situation and I have to travel by next week for an emergency to India.

I am residing in London in a dependent visa and went for biometric in November 2018 . Got the update as my Visa is approved, but the BRP is not ready and no ETA for it as of now.

Can i travel to India as per the plan next week with the passport (without BRP) and my family will collect it once BRP is ready and sent it across to India so that I can come back to UK ?.

I heard like BRP is required only when I come back to UK again.. and for travelling to my native country it is not required or mandatory. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks for the help.

Regards
GB

In similar situation. Visa decision is made and it is approved. Can BRP be collected by authorised person and sent to India so I have it when I come back.
