Just Want to Work In the UK

Post by LdyMW » Fri Jun 13, 2008 3:30 am

I am 33 years old, from the United States, and wish to fulfill a life-long dream of living and working in the UK but my employer does not have offices there. To complicate matters, my boyfriend (he is British) receives public funds at this time and can not sponsor me.

When I inquired of the British Embassy about seeking employment abroad, they only told me to look for jobs online and left it at that. I also took the assessment for the Highly Skilled Migrant Scheme but even with my Bachelor's Degree I failed to qualify so I am very disheartened. :(

Is an employer-sponsored work permit my only option or are there other LEGAL avenues to finding work that I may be unaware of?

Thank you in advance for any advice!!
