BRP Update - Dependent

Post by xcrogers » Thu Feb 28, 2019 1:39 pm

my wife (a dependent) just renewed her US passport and in doing so updated her name from maiden to married only change). We understand this requires her to obtain a new BRP card. If it matters, I hold a five year Tier 2 General Visa which is valid for three more years.

- it seems she can apply online, however, will she need to send in her new passport and 'existing' BRP as part of the application?

She travels regularly for her work so not having her passport or BRP for upwards of 8 weeks (time noted on the .gov site) is not an option, we understand there is a 'priority' service for considerably more money which provides a response in one day. It would be tremendous to be able to avoid spending that sum of money for a name update.

We're trying to figure out how to abide by the home office requirements but also retain the ability for her to travel for her employment.

I did some searching on the site/google and didn't find much more than this so certainly feel free to direct me to a thread that has covered this.

Thank you

Can anyone comment/confirm if mailing in the old BRP/passport is required as part of updating the name of a dependent?

Thank you

Hopefully this will prove helpful for anyone else that ever needs to update/make a change in circumstances UKVI you can now do this (program initiated in Nov 2018) and expanded in March.

Wife made the application, will visit the center next week to have all the documents scanned and be able to retain passport, BRP and other documents during the application processing.

Thank you
