Two interesting points to note: My wife's passport was processed almost a week faster at the same office and otherwise under identical conditions (i.e. application date, 2nd nationality, etc.). My approval came through on a Sunday, so either HMPO is currently working overtime or their IT system is updated at irregular intervals.

Don't know how to edit my original post but the Passport Office emailed me on Sunday, March 17th requesting more information and I mailed what they've asked for the following day from Miami, FL USA.

I've checked my application status on their website this morning, March 27th, showing my application status as "Dispatched".

I am impressed at not only the efficiency and turnaround time (at least in my case) at the HM Passport Office, but at how quickly my mailings were able to reach to the UK via the US postal service.

I sent in for a renewal of my US passport the day after I sent for my UK renewal (which was received only two days after I mailed) and it's still has weeks left to process. Figure that...
