Irish Citizen becoming UK citizen

Post by Lcr1988 » Sat Apr 06, 2019 12:03 pm

I was wondering if anyone would be able to officer some advice?
I am a Irish citizen who has lived and worked in the UK for nearly 8years. I would like to apply for British Citizenship / Passport but I am unsure of the process. I have looked online and done research but to be honest I’m a bit confused.
- Being Irish do I need to apply for permanent residence and then wait 1 year to apply for citizenship?
- as I have lived and worked in the UK for nearly 8 years using my Irish citizenship can I apply directly for UK citizenship?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Were you or either parent born in Northern Ireland? If so, you may already be a British citizen.

As I understand it, Irish citizens are considered settled on arrival in the UK. Therefore, there is no need to apply for PR for Irish citizens.

You do however need to provide proof of five years of residence in the UK.
