Obtaining British Citizenship

Post by jennyjo » Fri Jun 20, 2008 11:32 pm

Hopefully someone on here can help me. I was born in USA 1955, mother British, married GI and moved to USA just before I was born. When my father retired from US Air Force we came to live in England 1973. I hold an American passport which is stamped 'indefinite leave to remain'. I got married in 1978, divorced 5 years later but never applied for British citizenship. I have lived here now for 35 years - can I obtain a British Passport/citizenship? If so, what do I need to do? Thanks

You will need to apply for naturalisation as a British citizen:
http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/britis ... alisation/

In advance, you need to do the Life in the UK Test:

You will not lose your American citizenship provided you intend to retain it: http://www.richw.org/dualcit/
