Pls help - how to update a residence document?

Post by WhiteEagle » Mon Jun 16, 2008 12:23 pm

Hello,

My wife and I both have a "UK Residence Documentation for a National of an EEA State" documents - small blue booklets with six pages. We are both Hungarians and have already worked more than a year here so this is why/how we got these documents. We travelled for them to Croydon Immigration Office personally.

These documents have our UK address in them, written in just with black inked pen. There is plenty of space to write in a new address - as we have just moved to a new home in the UK (just from one part of a town to an other part of the same town). In Croydon the officer told us that we are free to enter our new address into these booklets in case we move. But, just ten minutes ago I called them and they told no, we will need to fill out new EEA1 forms and wait up to six months to get the new booklets with the new address or to travell to Croydon Office in person again... But, the officer also said that it wasn't a problem if we didn't update the address, so he said it was up to us...

My questions:
- Which officer is right? Can we just write into the booklets our new address or do we really need to undergo that long procedure again? (Also, if we move (inside the UK) every 6-12 months, which has a good chance because of my job, then should we do this EEA1 form procedure each time up to 5-6 years? By the time we get the new booklets we can apply again because of a new move...)
- Is it correct that we will have no problem (of any kind) at all if we do not update the booklets with the new address?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Cheers,
Attila

If you don't have any official info about this but you have already faced the same problem then I'm curious to know what you did. Did you tell about the move to the immigration office or not?

When I got mine, the address field was empty. So I pencilled in my current address, and I will update it when I move. I see no reason why this should be a big procedure.

Anyway, what do you do with the document? I have not found a single use for it yet.

Thanks for the answer. Yes, I think I will leave it alone too. What do you I do with the document? Well, I heard so it is useful for two reasons:
1) You won't be bothered with WRS registration again. If you change your job and your employer bothers you with WRS registration you just simply show your booklet.
2) When after 5 (6) years you go for citizenship then this booklet can confirm/evidence that you have been working and living here and so you are eligible for going for the British citizenship.
