Hello, I have some questions about the overall process to have my spouse join me and I couldn't understand what's the right path. Any help is appreciated!
My case is pretty simple. I am living in the UK and I have Italian citizenship. I got my pre-settled status approved a few days ago. I want my wife to come here (we married like 10 ten years ago, so no restrictions on that aspect) and that's where I started having doubts about the right way to do it. She is from south america and has never been in the UK, so she doesn't have BCP/BCR/Nino/etc.
1. In order to come, she first has to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme Family Permit. From what I understood, this permit is only for six months (is that a passport stamp or just a letter?). After she submits the application and goes for her biometric appointment, will she be issued a BRP/BRC? It doesn't look like it. It seems this is only for the initial entry to the UK and doesn't seem to be for anything else.
2. In order to stay beyond 6 months and be able to work, she seems to have to apply for the Pre-settled status like me. How? Does she need to apply using the "online and by post" option? It seems once you select that, you have to go for another biometric appointment with the UKVI. Then she will receive a BRP correct? Or is it a BRC? After this, she will have to mail her passport to them (I am guessing is after the appointment, if not, she might not have her passport on time for her biometrics). Then, she also needs to apply for the National Insurance Number and take her BCP/BCR/Passport with her. It looks like this is only given automatically when people have a work visa.
3. In 5 years if nothing changes and we want to remain here, we will have to apply for Settled status.
Is this path correct? Am I missing something important?
Thanks!
