Is it possible to travel while switching employers?

I'm currently employed on a tier 2 visa and I've been offered a job at a new employer who would like me to start as soon as possible. They've said they'll pay for the one day processing for the new tier 2 visa, but I have a big, non-refundable holiday coming up.

I'm a bit worried that I won't get my new BRP back in time for the holiday if there are any delays at the Home Office. Will I still be able to get back into the UK on my old BRP if I go abroad before getting a decision and/or my new BRP? I understand I'll be able to keep my current BRP as the application will be made using the super premium service and it's not expiriing for a while.
