Marriage in Europe..... Help!

Post by Frustrated Brit » Wed Mar 23, 2005 11:08 am

Hi All

Hope someone may be able to help. I am a Brit living in France now for 18 months and wish to marry my Ukrainian fiancee. She cannot get a Marriage visa to visit France because I am not French she can only get a tourist visa, therefore we cannot marry in France. Does anyone know of any country in the EU where it is relatively easy to get married in these circumstances????

thank's in advance for any help.

Graham

Graham .... how about the UK! That is, if your fiancée gets a Marriage Visitor visa from her local British Embassy/Consulate she would be able to travel to the UK and then the two of you could give the required Notice of Intention to Marry at a UK Register Office, and subsequently marry!

From what you post it seems that she is an ideal candidate for a Marriage Visitor's Visa ... there being no intention to live in the UK after the marriage is registered.

Furthermore, once the two of you are married, your wife (as she will then be) could apply for an EEA Family Permit at the French Consulate in London, and then move to France to live with you.

Food for thought?

Hi John

Well I suppose it is a thought, but it would mean I suspect staying in the UK for a period which I didn't really want to do..... but as you say she probably is an ideal candidate as we would not be living in the Uk following marriage....yea a thought!

Thanks

Graham

I would have thought marriage in the Ukraine would be more straighforward given the relative ease with which a British National can enter the country.
