visa possibilities and partners visa

Hello,
We're in a terribly difficult situation! My partner has been offered a job in Queensland (sponsored by the company) who are asking him to start in 3 weeks. I am an occupational therapist and do gain enough points to qualify for application for a skilled visa.

I suppose I have two problems, how can they offer a job with the visa sorted if my partner hasn't even applied for a visa? And if he were to go would I have to stay in the UK while my application is processed. I am also undergoing tests for a medical condition, would this impact on medicals required?

My partner was only offered the job on Thursday and my world has been upside down since then. Any advice would be much appreciated!
