Waiting for passport...

Post by horsethorn » Sun May 05, 2019 10:13 pm

Hi everyone

I've been haunting this forum for a while, got some real help from you, thank you all :)

But... I'd like to ask if anyone knows how long it takes to process the passport.

Our situation: My partner applied for a fiancee visa in August 2018, it got initially refused (because their info was out of date about an NHS bill that was paid well before we applied). We appealed, and the decision was overturned just before it went to the tribunal. We finally got the email for her to send in her passport, 27th March. She sent it in as instructed (To VFS in New York) and they got it on the 5th April.

Then, after chasing them to get a confirmation of receipt for a few days, they finally told us that as our application was so old, the passport had to be sent to the UK to get the visa. The change of process that allowed VFS to process the passport didn't apply to us, apparently.

So, it's been a month. I've chased VFS, but they say to contact UKVI in Sheffield. I've tried contacting them, but their paid contact lines can't look at individual applications (which makes me wonder what we're paying for...). Ive even contacted my MP, but his office is still waiting for a response. I've complained, but that can take up to 20 days for a reply.

She's getting really stressed because she's in temporary accommodation (Airbnb/motels) and we have no idea how long she will have to do that, how long to book ahead (going fortnight by fortnight at the moment) :(

Do any of you wonderful helpful people know how long it's likely to take to get her passport back?

On a secondary note - regarding their mistake on the initial refusal, is it worth going to the parliamentary and health ombudsman to see if we can get some of our expenses (due to the delay over their mistake) back?

I’m in a similar situation. My spouse visa application was refused, I won my appeal, submitted my passport last week (30th April), and now I’m waiting to get the stamp on my passport.

I called UKVI in Sheffield last week to get an idea of how long I have to wait. They said it’s usually 3 weeks, but they will expedite my process because I’ve been waiting for 2 years since I made the application.

I think the stamp is made by VFS in your country of application, and not UKVI in Sheffield

They don't exactly hurry. Refusal overturned at tribunal appeal July 2018. Passport requested Dec 2018. Finally received passport with visa April 2019......and this (possibly) after MP intervention. :x

What country did you apply from? I’ve seen people who only waited for 2-3weeks from the day of submission before getting their passport.

Please write your full timeline.

I hope it comes through quickly :)

What number did you call them on? It's nearly a year since we applied.

It is now, but apparently applications made before they started doing that still have to go to Sheffield.

My partner is American

Applied online for fiance visa August 2018 (Priority)
Refusal end of Sept 2018
Appealed Oct 2018
Overturned March 2019
Email to send in passport March 27 2019
Sent passport April 4 2019
Signed for at VFS New York April 5 2019
April 23 2019 VFS finally told us that the passport had been sent to Sheffield

Since then I've been chasing everyone I can find to try and find out what's happening (including my MP, his office has called & emailed the Home Office recently and are waiting for a reply)

Did either of you pay the new health insurance of £1200?

I paid £650 when I applied in 2017. I don’t know if I’ll pay the same or £1200
