HSMP and periods of Absence?

Hello All
Need some advice folks please:
I am on Hsmp visa from June 2005 (initial period 1 year with 4 year extension until Jun 2010)

Now basically I am just wondering how long am I allowed to be away from UK to apply for ILR in 2010.
I am planning to work abroad on Working Holiday visa for 3-6months... so if I am not eligible for ILR in 2010 what will be the process of HSMP extension and when can I apply for ILR??

Please help- need to decide if I can go or not?
