Travel after ILR expires

Post by moki_1984 » Tue Jul 30, 2019 10:08 pm

Hi,

I have a ILR stamped on my Passport which expires on 30/08/2019.
I am in the process of applying NTL https://visas-immigration.service.gov.u ... nt-service but have not completed the application process. Due to unforeseen circumstances i must travel to my country this October and I am not quite confident that I will get my passports back before October and also i do not want to take a risk, plus I do not want to pay for premium one day service.

So my question is will I be able to travel with my current expired ILR?
Will I face any problems with immigration at the airport?

If not any helpful suggestion is highly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Moki

ILR status does NOT expire. An expired ILR sticker can be used to enter the UK so you face no issues at the border however you may be refused boarding by an airline if you are a visa national. NTL is also issued only as a Biometric Card (BRP) and no sticker is issued anymore.
You also need a BRP if you change your job and need to prove your right to work or right to rent, an ILR sticker is not acceptable.

Thanks Zimba for your response.

Glad to hear that but worried that the airline may refuse boarding. I am a Nepali national which means a visa national. Is there any steps i can take so that the airline would not refuse boarding? It sounds kind of lame for them to refuse boarding when the border force allows entry.

Stupid will be liable and charged £2000 for allowing a passenger who is inadequately documented to arrive at a UK port. . While an expired ILR sticker could satisfy the immigration officer at a UK border that you're a returning resident with ILR status and in theory you will not be a liability, the Stupid continue to take a conservative approach and do not allow people without valid visas to board. If you do not get a BRP and leave the UK, you cannot come back unless you go to the UK embassy and apply for a Indefinite Leave To Enter (ILE) visa in your home country. This could takes months and cost you money.

Hi there,

Regarding my issue above, i have made an online application to transfer by ILR to BRP (NTL) in August.
I am travelling next month and i do not think i will get by BRP posted to me by then.
Hence, my question is (sorry if i am repeating myself)
1. Will my ongoing application for NTL be marked as withdrawn when i leave UK?
2. Any documents I can take with me to show that my NTL is in application?
3. Can i show Stupid HO application confirmation documents, fees paid etc when i return to UK

Also when making an online application I did not get an acknowledgement letter. Do i need to ask HO for this.

Best Regards
