Work Permit PROMOTION AND SALARY RISE

Dear All,
I am promoted from junior engineer to Enginner after 21 months with 5.5 % salary rise in addition to annual rise .IS THIS A TECHNICAL CHANGE or CHANGE OF EMPLOYMENT?
If Change of employemnt refused then CAN I continue working on my old work permit of Junior engineer?

It is not a technical change because the job has changed due to a promotion.

See the UKBA website

If the change of employment application is refused, that does not stop the original WP. Just do not start the new job until the employer gets permission for you to do this.
