Do you have a COA?
I recently went on holiday to Europe with my British child (I'm a non-EU national, and went to visit my husband who was working in EU).
When I re-entered the UK, I showed them my COA and they let us back in.
In my case, I had even received a rejection while I'd been out of the country, but as I was still within the time limit for being allowed to appeal, the folks at customs allowed me back into the UK.
And, in my case, my child was even traveling on his non-British passport, as their British passport had been with the home office when we needed to travel.
When I went, I felt like it was a bit of a risk, but I also didn't want to feel like I was trapped inside the UK, and that my immigration status was affecting my ability to live my life.
With that said, in my case, if worst had come to worst, and I'd had to go back to my home country - I was prepared to do so.
