US Citizen studied in Ireland (5 months) without visa - is she banned?

Hi,

I have a friend (US Citizen) who studied in Ireland for about 5 months in 2018. A VISA is required for this, but they has to cancel their VISA appointment. They rebooked the appointment but the only available date was after they travelled home.

They now plan to enter Ireland again for a short trip/vacation. What are the chances their entry will be denied due to this past VISA offence? Any documentation they should bring to border control to be as prepared as possible?

Please only responses from people who have knowledge of the system or have experienced something similar!

We had someone on this forum who intentionally overstayed his student visa and illegally remained in Ireland, and were still allowed to come back after a trip abroad.

If your friend did not get any formal warning and left the state voluntarily, I don't think there would be too much trouble coming here for a short trip. Just make sure that they have all the details on hand (itinerary, hotel booking, which tourist attractions that they plan to visit, return flight details etc).
