Good character question

Hi All ,
I hope one of the most experience people will shed some light on this issue ,
I am due to apply for my citizenship, something came to my attention without knowing about it just at the end of last week ,I have never been aware there has been charge for the child benefit called ; Higher Income Child Benefit Charge,
The last three years I had worked lots of overtime and my salary slightly got over the 50K , as soon I realised there were charge for higher incomes who take the child benefit. I contacted the HMRC and explained to them the situation and they asked me to fill in the self assessments for the three years.
I have never been notified or had a letter from HRMC , it is me who's contacting them.
reading through it seems there have been lots of confusion and lots of people fined due to failure to notify and HRMC also refunded some people who had been already fined for failure to notify as they were not aware of the rule change.
is that going to affect my good character,
any guidance and help very much appreciated

This will not affect the "Good Character" requirement as you have dealt with the issue.
Issues with PAYE, tax codes, etc do arise all the time.

there is a big probability they will impose fine for each year as failure to notify,
HRMC have all the information and know what we pay why not they send a letter notifying you about the charge that you may need to pay.
Do i need to declare it on my application?
I have never had any fine , speed ticket or any thing you may think of , clean and higher tax payer , no benefit except the child benefit which i thought everyone in UK was entitle to. If i knew i would have stoped it long time ago .

The "fines" HMRC impose for various reasons are no court penalties, they are more administrative measures, for being late, wrong data, etc. You would only have a problem if you are not keeping up with arrangements or HMRC take you to court. Claiming benefits and earning levels are not taken into consideration for AN applications.

very much appreciated your replies, I was a bit worried and got confused as i thought fines imposed by HRMC would be considered as penalties,
so i do not need to declare it on my application.>
