SET (M) - Indefinite leave to remain for unmarried partner

Post by Lina_ » Tue Jul 15, 2008 11:49 am

Hello all,

It would be very appreciated if anyone can give me advice or answers to my concerns.

Here is my situation. I've applied for indefinite leave to remain (set M) as an unmarried partner to an European settled in UK. I underwent the UK route therefore paid 750 pounds! I've received the confirmation letter from the Home Office on end of May and since then, I have no update on the progression of my application at all.

The problem is I would like to go on holiday at the end of August and I don't know whether there is any way that I can do to speed up the process?

I've also sent them letters to inquire why it takes so long (it's a straightforward application) and that their website stated clearly that 70% of applications will be dealt with within 4 weeks!!!

So, here are my questions:

-Is there anything I can do to speed up the progress of my application?
- What happens if after 14 weeks my application still hasnt shown up in their system, what will the Home Office do?
-If they run the investigation after 14 weeks, how long will this take?
- Is the Home Office supposed to reply to my letter inquiry?

Thanks alot for your help.

Hello

What visa or permit did you have when you applied for ILR?

Hello,

I got the 2 years visa for unmarried partner (with an european who is settled in the UK). It's a pretty straightforward application I must say with all asked documents + extras. Last time it took them 3 weeks to give me back my passport with the visa. Im not sure why it took so long this time and there is no way to track to make sure that it hasn't gone lost somewhere. I've got the confirmation letter 2 days after it has been sent and the money was taken off after 4 days. Now Its approaching the 8 weeks and still no news!

Please if you have any advice on how I can speed this up, let me know. I do appreciate it very much.

Thanks

Hello,

It appears that they have backlog of applications and they have not treated application submitted in late May and June, 2008. I submmited mine on SET(M) on 02/06/2008 got the usual acknowldgement in 2 days and since then no more information. I have been reading about this topic on some other forum and it is a real problem. The home office should at least update people on their website like a tracking stuff so we can know the applications they are currently treating.. very sad!!

Hello there,

Thanks for your reply. I guess you are very frustrated as well! One thing I don't like is that we pay 750 pounds for the service (2,3 times more than it's used to be), thus we expect the service to be better/faster (as they can hire more people to deal with the applications). However it doesn't seem to be the case! How awful!

Let have our fingers x and hopefully our passports will be with us soon!

Please keep me update if you hear anything from them.

Thanks a lot.
