First Adult British Passport

Post by jkproperties » Thu Aug 29, 2019 9:45 pm

Hi,
My wife born 1980 to British Father, parents were married in 1978.
Divorced 1997 Father remarried.

So we cannot apply for abridged or unabridged certificates, they keep printing his current certificates.

We have applied for the Vault copy and are waiting for this.

But I just thought, the marriage certificate is usually to explain name changes.

Would my wife need her parents marriage certificate?

We have my Wife’s Vault BC both Parents have the same Surname as my wife’s Maiden and our Marriage certificate to show name change.

And Fathers Birth certificate and even the Grand Father’s BC.

Thank you,

Would a divorce decree suffice as proof of marriage?

If born outside the UK, yes. Name changes can occur otherwise than by marriage and a name change is not proof of marriage (conversely, a marriage does not always lead to a change of name).

Not really, because it does not usually indicate when the couple got married.

First adult British passport

Post by jkproperties » Mon Oct 07, 2019 8:00 pm

We have decided to submit my wife’s application without her Parents Marriage certificate, we applied 18 weeks ago, I follow up weekly with no solution in site.

We have submitted the divorce decree which states the Marriage date and other information, we have also added photos as proof, I will update the post with whatever the outcome.

We have also added a letter explaining why the certificate isn’t attached.

First adult British passport

Post by Sree88 » Tue Oct 08, 2019 5:31 pm

Hi Everyone,

I'm facing an issue with my first British Passport application.

I applied for it on 25th September soon after my naturalisation.
Today I got a letter from HM Passport a letter along with my Indian passport I sent for verification.
According to the letter, my name is different from my Passport application and my Indian passport.
I had changed it in June using a Deed Poll.
It wasn't a complete change but just taking off the middle name.

But the HMPO wants the name must be aligned with my Indian passport, which is difficult at this point
1. Because it must be a long process with the Indian High Commission to issue another passport
2. I'm stuck without a travel document
3. I had already sent my BRP card cut into pieces to Home Office as per the rule.
5. My naturalisation certificate is with HMPO, they didn't send it back with my Indian Passport.

So what would be the best course of action here? I should go to the Indian authorities apply for a new passport in my new name. That's the obvious way, but as I explained above it may take longer, I don't have a BRP and not sure how they are going to deal with that and finally it doesn't make any sense to apply for another Indian passport when I'm about to apply for a British passport and surrender the Indian one.

Could you please help me with your valuable advice?

Many thanks,
Sree.

Request an emergency passport, get the current one cancelled.
