Passport Renewal

I have queries regarding my passport.My passport expires in April 2020, I am planning to travel on January.For all the official documents including CoS I have given my current passport details.Incase I renew my passport i wanted to know will there be any complications?. Can I apply for the visa using the renewed passport? The old passport number will be mentioned in the renewed passport and i will be carrying the old passport with me. Can you please let me know what can be done regarding this.
