Standard visitor visa

Post by sundar6 » Fri Nov 22, 2019 3:12 pm

Hi All,

I m planning to bring my mother-in-law to uk on a standard visitor visa for six months. The duration we are planning is for 5 months in the application. My mother-in-law is living in india. Her husband passed away in 2011.

We are submitting the following documents to prove she will go back to india

Six months Pension she is receiving on behalf of her husband(My father-in-law)
Property is my father-in-laws name. Recently we transferred just the property tax to her name , so still property is in my father-in-laws name.

Bank savings, Fixed deposit documents

My question is do we need to show the property along with legal heir document or just the six months pension, property tax, bank statements and Fixed deposits are sufficient.

Also we put the duration as 5 months in the application and also we are sponsoring( we already have sponsorship documents like my bank statements etc). Do we need to show anything else to provide sufficient ties to India?

Hi,

What is your mum immigration\travel history and what do you show as ties to home country? Can you show that your mother-in-law inherited the property from your father-in-law?

In general I think it is pretty dangerous to plan a 5 month stay especially if this is her first trip to UK (hence my Q re her travel history. Does she have family in India?

Thanks iwolga!

She is holding sufficient funds in her savings bank account in India and couple of fixed deposits. Reg the property she is currently staying (for the past 23 years) is under my father-in-law's name but as a first step the property tax details are changed to her name. We are attaching the receipt provided for that by government on India for the property tax name transfer. As this is in English, we translated the same in English and notarized.

She doesn't have any one staying with her in the same property but her sister's son and husband are staying near by. Her son is in the US and she is holding a valid US Tourist Visa and visiting her son once in a year.

Will any of that help?

I would definitely recommend to reduce the length of stay to 2-3 weeks, especially if this is her first visit to UK.

The logic which HO follows is: when a person can leave the country for half year (well, almost), he\she can leave forever ie overstay. Especially if your father in law recently passed away and this is your mother-in-law first visit to UK.

My own mum is in Russia, is 72, has her pension, savings and she is a house owner. We just received her visits visa yesterday.

She had one UK visa before (well before I moved to UK), as well as a lot of Schengen visas over years. Having read all the rejections on this forum, I was super nervous she will be refused. To be on the safe side, I invited her for 8 days only. This more corresponds with the idea of a short-term stay (and - well - I'm not sure I can survive my mum for longer in one house :)) What is more important, she can't really leave Russia for longer and - my keeping her visit short - we proved it.
