Travelling abroad when UK ILR to BRP transfer application is under processing

Hi All,

I got UK ILR in 2011. My present passport have ILR sticker.
In year 2011, Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) was not available.
Since my present passport expires in 2021, now I have applied for BRP card using NTL form.
I may get BRP card in next month.

Due to some reason, I need to travel to India urgently. My current passport with ILR is with me.

Whether its is acceptable to travel abroad outside UK when ILR to BRP application is under processing?

While coming back to UK, whether UK immigration officer at airport will ask any question about BRP application or refuse entry though I got ILR passport?

Please advise.

I also have similar issues but when I rang to HO they said I can’t travel as there’s an application in progress, and that if I travel it will automatically withdraw the current application?
I try to find information online but can’t seem to get anywhere.

First of all, you should not get immigration advice from HO telephone lines as they are manned by third parties and usually dish out incorrect advice. A visa to BRP transfer is NOT a visa application and so it is not withdrawn if you leave the UK (unlike a pending visa application)

Hi Zimba. Sorry to bother you again

As mentioned before I’m in the process of transfer my lost ILR onto BRP. I understand it takes 6 months,which I applied in sept. but I need to travel in feb, which will only be 5 months. And at the moment I have nothing to show my ILR status. Does it mean I can’t travel? I have a police reference when I report it lost but that’s it.
Is there anyone or anywhere I could request something in writing to proof my ILR status so u I can get back in the country?

You can travel or board a plane without visa to the UK. Have a copy of your ILR when you arrive at the UK border
