Change of name on citizinship certificate

Post by The Life of Dee » Wed Dec 11, 2019 2:08 am

My partner and I are thinking of getting married at some point next year. I have applied for Brittish citizinship and I was wondering, how do I go about changing my name on the citizinship document to prove who I am? Also, how long do I have to apply for a Brittish passport after the ceremony? I wonder if I can apply once we’re married and have it changed that way. Thanks in advance for the help.

You often cannot amend the name on your certificate of naturalisation and generally there is no need to.
In the UK, you can legally use your married name and there is no requirement to officially change you name. You can also get a passport in your married name. However it is important to note that HMPO will not issue a British passport in your married name unless you also change your name in your current passport.
