Urgent: Length of B. Statement for Visit Visa

Dear Friends,

I am applying for my mother for a long term visit visa and just double checking How long the bank statement is required for the funds to be in ? I do not find the proper rule which says 3 months or 6 months or otherwise ? I habve had around 6 - 7k in the account for last 4 - 4.5 months ? Is it sufficient? Can anyone guide me to this please as i am applying before Xmas.

I would appreciate anything from regulations and not only from experience.
