IELTS B1 Validity for British Citizenship 2020

Post by Jacobpoole » Sat Jan 11, 2020 7:19 pm

Hi everyone,

I passed my IELTS B1 on October 2012 and got Entrepreneur 1 visa on January 2013, got Extension for 2 years in 2016 and finally got ILR in June 2018, on the basis of the same test.
Now on January 2020, I intend applying for citizenship. Do I have to reappear for B1 Level qualification or my B1 certificate shall remain valid.
Your kind comments are requested on urgent basis please.

EMAIL FROM HOME OFFICE

Post by Jacobpoole » Sat Jan 11, 2020 8:13 pm

Hi everyone,

I recently applied for Uk citizenship and after a few weeks, I received an email from the Home Office, stating that I had to send my English Language Requirement Certificate (which I had already sent with my original application) to Home Office.
I passed my IELTS B1 on October 2012 and got Entrepreneur 1 visa on January 2013, got Extension for 2 years in 2016 and finally got ILR in June 2018, on the basis of the same test.
Now do I have to reappear for B1 Level qualification as my certificate expired two years from the date I gave the test or if my original B1 certificate shall remain valid.
Your kind comments are requested on urgent basis please.

Hi

Is your english language test was accepted in ILR then you dont need to do a new one for citizenship.

I was sent this email last week as well. I contested the home office personnel regarding the rules that are on the HO website and what they are saying in the email.

They had to accept that my old English language is valid even if it was out of date

Applying to settle in the UK - You can use a B1 level qualification that’s run out if both of the following are true: 1) It’s on the current list of recognized tests. 2) It was accepted for another UK immigration application, for example when you got permission to enter"

Applying to settle in the UK - You can use a B1 level qualification that’s run out if you’re applying for citizenship and it was accepted when you settled in the UK. It does not matter if the B1 level test you took is not on the current list of recognized tests. You do not need to take another test."

Your old English language test should suffice if it was accepted before.

Hi,

I am in a similar situation however the case worker sent me a letter by post and did not leave his email address. I sent an email via the UKVI email address stating my reference number, my name and case worker name on the subject line and explained that from the guidelines, it should still be accepted.
I'm just a bit worried if it would go to my caseworker or should I just do a new test? I have until the end of the month to reply to his letter with a new test result otherwise he said my application will be refused.
