VAF4 Application in Thailand

Post by Mr Bear » Fri Aug 01, 2008 1:22 pm

Hello.

I haven't added to my old thread as much of the subject matter isn't relevant at the moment and I didn't want these questions to get lost.

My partner is currently in Thailand and we are in the process of completing the online application form, and hope to do this at the earliest opportunity.

There are three things presently holding us back and I just wanted to ask for advice on here in case we should just go ahead and press the button, or whether you feel that we should wait.

1) Certification of Documents :
I have already sent a considerable of amount of documents to Thailand but there are 5 documents that I really don't want to send as originals. I am getting conflicting messages on the subject of certification.
I spoke with the HO and they said they couldn't advise but said that in England they would need to see originals. I emailed the British Embassy in Thailand (10 days ago) and have not received a reply.
I have seen several sources state that certified (by an ordinary solicitor) documents can be sent, although the UKBA website states that documents need to be certified by a Notary.
Please could anyone clear this up?

2) My Employment :
I have recently been made redundant but am supporting myself without the use of public funds and have a few thousand pounds in savings.
Obviously if I found work today I still wouldn't get a full (basic and commission) salary until the end of September.
Is it imperative that I get back into work before applying for the visa? Or would my savings, bank account/wage slip history, and CV be taken into consideration?

3) My Partners Employment :
My partner started a new job in Thailand one month ago. At this point she hasn't received any paperwork such as a contract, and her first wage slip might not be received until the end of August (!)
Given that if the Visa is approved she will obviously be leaving Thailand and leaving that job, how important is it that she submits evidence of employment with her application?

I have left out a lot of background to our story as I didn't think you'd want to read several pages but we have lived as a couple for 3 years and are not yet married. I am British by birth.

Any advice or opinion would be gratefully received. Any questions please feel free to ask.

If anyone can help on this I'd be very grateful.
