Can my sister come and live with us

Post by Freyanabs » Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:44 am

Hello

I am British and my Moroccan husband has just received his British citizenship

We have two children and both work full time and have no family here

We are wondering whether there is any way or what route we could take to bring my husbands sister to live with us so she can help us care for our two children and live here with us?

She is in her early 50’s so I don’t think she can apply for a work visa and the family visa information online is confusing as different sites say different things

Is there any advice out there on a possible route for us to do this?

We can prove we can pay her to care for our children and pay for her to stay with us etc and we have room for her to live with us

Many thanks

Hello

There is no visa for this kind of situation.

The only thing you can do is to get her here on visitor visa but it's limited to 180 days a year. If she doesn't have a job in Morocco and strong attachments there, even a visitor visa can be very challenging to obtain.

You will see in this forum that some managed to bring their relatives in the UK but usually it's under EEA routes where there are some options. However, as both of you are British living in Britain, you don't qualify for these EEA routes. There are some exception like if you lived in an EEA country with this person and she was part of your household, held an EEA family member card then you moved to the UK and want to bring her with you... etc.

But as British, living in the UK, you can only apply under UK immigration routes.
