These events are entirely dependent on the operational needs of public health policy and the advice of healthcare professionals. The Department will continue to monitor developments.

How do you get invited to citizenship ceremonies - is it a letter sent by post or do they email you?

You get a letter by post that will be 4-5 weeks before ceremony

There is also a ceremony in April.
Just prior to this ceremony of March... they asked the people if they cannot attend this ceremony due to Corona virus they can let them know before hand and they can include those people in April's ceremony.
So there is another ceremony expected in April.

Hi, if you are asking about March ceremony, no I haven't got it. For the July one I think it is way too early to expect it.

that has been cancelled due to the fear of covid19 , the next one will be on 3rd July ((even this date is fully dependent on notional Health advisor))

I have received letter last week to pay 950 euros. If coronavirus issue is resolved then next ceremony will be in July.

Would be so much better (in terms of coping with uncertainty) if they posted citizenship certificate in the same way they do for children applications.Maybe for limited period until we are back to normal life.

They might do it closer to the date, otherwise alternative is to postpone it for the year when covid19 will be fully under control.

It would be nice if they could just mail the cert of naturalisation to us.
I can understand how it may otherwise raise questions over the need for the previous ceremonies and for future ones.

It’s against the constitution, as every adult has to be sworn-in in front of a judge.
They can do it the old way by having this done in local courts. This avoids large crowds and gets rid of the non-essential travels for most of the applicants, but I doubt if that would happen due to the logistics and costs.

Then most probably number of smaller ceremonies with 50-100 people around the country or postponing the ceremonies for a year as non essential ones. I guess the time will tell.

hi Stanina may I ask from where did you know they will postpone the ceremonies for one year? Did you read it on website, or TD told you, or a lawyer or newspaper or any official statement , I searched online but I not find anything similar then I will be grateful if you let me knew.

Aila it is just my speculation and common sense. Mass events in the light of Covid19 is a no go.
It looks like Covid19 will be there for a year at least according to forecast. Mass gathering are still forbidden in Wuhan after almost 4 months after the outbreak start in December 2019.

The whole country, it s people and all departments need to be 'adaptable' because of this whole situation. It s not an excuse that this is the way they have always done things. Who would have thought about working from homes for so many days? But we are having to do this. The department needs to understand that people have already been waiting for so long and can no longer afford to wait anymore. They need to send the naturalisation certificate to people without the need to attend the ceremonies.

Changing Constitution requires a referendum. Unless you are suggesting that people all over the country should come to a hall to vote so that you don’t have to attend a ceremony, that simply won’t happen. The best thing to do is to follow WHO’s advice. Stay home and let this disruption finish as soon as possible.

Agree with littlerr. I am still hoping though they will switch to 1-1 with judge with before. Maybe 100 to 200 per day can be processed with social distance with one judge protected with policarobnate glass.

I think time will tell, hopefully it will happen any form this year.

my friend we're in the same boat but I don't think the ceremonies will take place on 3rd July 2020, If you look at an INIS website they suspended permissions, international protection, Irish visa, Even the passports Offices has been suspended. this called my bad luck signs so, I'm a little pessimist, but I think the ceremonies could take place on September and December If we are lucky and Coronavirus problem was solved and Citizenship Division did not keep delaying our case.

Ireland does not have legislation on ‘virtual’ attendance on legal system. This means if you are required to ‘go to court’ (as is required for naturalisation purposes), you must physically visit a judge.

I know in certain countries (like China) they have online courts for small civil matters. Both parties and the judge simply join an online session to sort things out. This does not yet exist in Ireland unfortunately.

There are also technical issues with how you are going to be identified as the person you say you are, and how you are going to sign legal documents etc. In China every legal resident has an ID card, a phone number and a residence document that can be validated online. Here we don’t have this. You can’t expect the judge to verify whether a foreign passport or a local ID card is valid or not online.

I believe there no additional words about "physical body" presence in the court by law. It's just a normal practice from the "stone age". The word "attendance" still be "attendance" even with modern "virtual" technology help. For identification purposes MyGovID verify account can be used.
