Why? Are you anticipating it to be rejected? I see no reason why one's should be rejected unless he has either been on the dole or has criminal record?

We never know!

When you hear people being declined for drunk driving, anything could happen. I suppose its better to have plan B, dont u think?

Supplementary question: Regarding Dole - What if a person used Dole say 5 years back? (The tax records back-track until 4 years only).

well you shouldn't expect citizenship to be granted on you if you ever drink and drive, that's a criminal act and I would have no sympathy for anyone caught for that and subsequently rejected.

About dole 5 years ago, I don't know. You should probably be ok, someone here said they're concerened with the last 3 years only, usually...

depends. how long ago was the offence, what was the punishment, are there other offences? there are a few cases in england (muhammad al fayed of harrods fame being one)

although the courts would take drink driving to be a serious offence, one might have a case for court where an offence was minor and a long time ago. depends if court could legally interfere really as minister has exclusive decision in this area.

One of the Migrant help forums here states that the Minister is generally satisfied if applicant hasn't accessed Dole for 3 years preceding the application & the subsequent 3(or 4 !) year period.

One option if naturalisation is rejected is to try and apply for permanent residence (not LTR)..This I believe is available for anyone who has spent 8 years of working life here. No idea about the processing time for this though. Also, if naturalisation application has been rejected there is a high chance that even permanent residency application will be rejected!
If this is the case best option is to move to another country where permanent immigration laws are more conducive!
