For some back story, I was born in Mozambique, in the same town where mum was also born and briefly lived there before moving to the UK, where I later acquired European citizenship. My mum, through the high commission, enquired on whether I could gain nationality, but to no avail.
I'm not sure if this detail may be relevant, but she used to have the passport and I.D card. The passport expired 15 years ago and never renewed it, but was able to renew her I.D card 3 years ago through the consulate in Portugal.
So my questions are as follows:
1) Do I qualify for citizenship by descent?
2) If so, will I need to renounce my current citizenship or can I hold on to it, as renouncing my current citizenship would cause problems to my immigration status where I'm living?
3) Can I apply from abroad, because I haven't visited Mozambique in 2 decades, and have no idea when or if I will ever return there?
Hope this information is enough and thanks in advance for the support
