Do english and life in the UK test expire for citizenship application purposes?

Post by chssvi » Mon Jun 01, 2020 10:13 am

My wife and I applied jointly for ILR back in mid-2015. At the time we had to take the life in the UK test and the English test as well (Trinity colege). I succesfully applied for citizenship a year later but my wife decided to stay with just the ILR. She's now thinking about applying for citizenship, but doesn't want to have to take these tests again.

The FAQ seems to sugest that life in the life in the UK tests do not expire (hope that is indeed the case, even if it's five years old or more) but not sure about the english test.

I just remember that when I came to the UK I had to take the TOEFL to apply for my Tier 2 visa, then I had to take the Pearson test three years later to renew it and then the Trinity College test two years later to apply for the ILR. The Trinity college test still shows up as a valid test and, needless to say, she has the original certificates for both tests.

Thanks as always

The LITUK test doesn't expire and you can select the option saying you provided English with your ILR application. Guidance: "People who applied for settlement on or after 28 October 2013 needed to have had a B1 level qualification".
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Thanks. Actually it makes sense now. I guess the trinity test counts as a "qualification" rather than a test per se.

Thanks again!
