UK: Visa for my Malaysian BF

Hi All,

I am a UK national and my bf has been working in the UK (firm sponsored his visa) for a few years having studied at university and done his Masters in the UK also - but the company he works for is closing down. His visa runs out the coming September and he works in a specialised role that is not hiring at the moment (recruiters say roles will only be available from October onwards).

What are my options for keeping him in the UK until he finds a job? I value our relationship but am not at the stage where I want to get married; and I would like him here until he finds another job (he wants to stay here too).

We've been together for almost two years (come September, which is also when the visa runs out) and I earn above the threshold required for an unmarried partner visa to support us both and he has savings. For the past two years, we've spent equal time between my flat and his but we don't really have much by way of joint bank statements or expenses. We simply share expenses via a banking app. He has a weird tenancy agreement with a rich person in Malaysia who owns his flat which I don't know much about and I own (if that's important info).

He probably came in as student (Tier 4 visa) then started working for a sponsor (Tier 2) visa. I am gathering that from what you are desribing.

Do you know for how long he lived in the UK in total?

There is no visa for BF.

There is a visa for married people or for people who demonstrably live in a relationship akin to marriage for minimum of 2 years. So the word marriage is always there. This means, living at the same address, sharing financial commitments, having both names on council tax, joint bank accounts... etc.
