Change of address before receiving letter of approval

Hi all,

I hope you are doing well. I please need some advice on my situation.

Long story short: I received my British citizenship letter of approval (by email) from the Home Office. My concern is that the letter has my old address (the one I used to live in when I applied for the citizenship). I am currently staying at an Airbnb, hence I could not give the new address to the Home Office (not a permanent address). I am also waiting for my home to be completed but due to COVID-19 there are major delays (so I cannot give the address of an off plan home that I have not moved into yet).

My question is should I inform the Home Office or should I wait to attend a ceremony at my old Council? Thank you in advance for your help.

What address did you give in the application? Was it the Airbnb address?

Hi Zerubbabel, thank you for your reply. When I applied I gave my then current address (before moving into the Airbnb). To make my case a little bit clearer here is the timeline:
Submission of application in December
Moved to Airbnb in February
Received the letter of approval (attached in an email) in May
Ceremony date unknown due to COVID-19
Move to the new house unknown due to COVID-19

Do you have a mail redirection from your previous address to the Airbnb? If not, you can still to go the Post Office website, open an account and setup one.

Thank you for your fast reply. I have a mail redirection to my best friend’s house since February. My only worry is that if the HO contacts my old council then they may not find me on their records. So I presume it will be fine to attend a ceremony at my old council. Am I right?

Sorry for asking again. Am I right to assume that it will not be a problem to attend the ceremony at my old council? There is no need to inform the HO, is this correct? Thank you.

Yes that will be ok - HO will not automatically move you to another council.
