Hi everyone,
We made an application on October 2019 for British Citizenship and ran into some issues, our application was put on hold and given us some time by HO to obtain a valid ID that is not expired (Bangladeshi). This is so that we can do the B1 test.
Due to COVID 19 we only just received our new passport from Bangladesh High Commissioner and now have booked a test in July for B1.
My concern is this, my wife has taken up my surname, she has a different surname before marriage. The Mrs used her maiden name in her application, she passed her Life in the UK test using her maiden name, all this has not caused concern to HO but they did made it clear they will issue her Citizenship using her original surname and not her maiden name as per the application.
So my concern is when applying for the B1 at Trinity they said to write her details exactly as per ID and that the information must match the ID. No issues we did that. Then on there terms and conditions, it says:
"What to do if your name has changed
If your name has changed and is now different from the name on the acceptable form of ID used on your online booking entry, you must present one of the following documents:
Marriage Certificate
If this document is not in English it must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
UK Spouse Visa (within date) or on a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
Contained within a Passport or on a BRP with the name of the Spouse clearly identifiable to correspond with the details provided by the candidate.
Deed Poll change of Name Document
Must be the official and original document clearly identifiable to correspond with the details provided by the candidate.
The proof of ID document MUST be presented on exam day alongside the acceptable form for ID used on your online booking entry."
The above is confusing, does that mean we should have used her maiden name and then provide one of the documents as requested? Or does it mean as per their instructions fill in her ID details for the test accurately but if you want to use your maiden name to be on the certificate then provide proof of document? More importantly, does the name make a difference to HO? As they recognise her original name on her passport as oppose to her maiden name? I say this because so far her application to HO used her maiden name, her Life in Test and all her proofs of living in UK bank statement, Council Tax, drivers licence used for HO was her maiden name. I'm just thinking if the test centre gives us the option to use her maiden name would that be better? I just don't want the HO to say later why you didn't take the option to use the maiden name for the test if that was even an option. I will be asking Trinity if that can be done well before the test.
Finally, once we get the B1 certificate, do we have to post her new passport (used for ID) with the B1 certificate? or is there a another application which I have to fill in for the HO to say we got a new passport?
Thanks in advance, all your help, advise will be very much appreciated and more importantly keep safe...
